What is a WeberWorldCafé?
The WeberWorldCafé is a biannually event series jointly organized by the Max Weber Stiftung and the Forum Transregionale Studien. It brings together people from different regions and academic backgrounds to discuss one transregional topic at a time. The events are characterized by an open, coffeehouse-like atmosphere, where each participant can bring in their perspective and thoughts.
How does it work?
Notes on the table cloth
To begin with, there is a short introduction where all experts, the so called table hosts, and their specific table topics, are presented. The expert act as table hosts on the thematic tables and guide and moderate the discussion on his or her table. After the introduction, the participants can freely choose which table to join and in which discussion to engage. The tables are equipped with white paper cloth and markers, so that the participants can write down their thoughts and ideas. After 25 to 30 minutes, a gong is struck and the participants can choose a new discussion table, while the table hosts stay at their thematic table. With the aid of the notes left by prior guests on the table cloth, the table hosts start the next discussion round by briefly summarizing the prior discussion and thus kicking off the new debate. It is important to note that there are no previously agreed on questions or themes to talk about: As both participants and table hosts typically come from various disciplinary backgrounds, they all bring different perspectives, ideas and approaches to the respective topics and tables. The aim of the event is to create a new network of ideas and perspectives towards the particular theme in focus. Finally, the results are summed up for everyone, both on the spot and on this blog, and following the WeberWorldCafé, more discussions are encouraged.
Was ist das WWC?
Das WeberWorldCafé ist ein interaktives Veranstaltungsformat der Max Weber Stiftung und des Forum Transregionale Studien, das Menschen aus unterschiedlichen Regionen und Disziplinen zweimal jährlich zu jeweils anderen Schwerpunkthemen zusammenbringt. Diskutiert wird in entspannter, kaffeehausähnlicher Atmosphäre, in der jeder Teilnehmende seine Sichtweisen äußern kann.
So funktioniert das WWC
Ongoing WeberWorldCafé
Zu Beginn gibt es eine einführende Moderation für alle Tische, in der der Ablauf und die verschiedenen Thementische kurz vorgestellt werden. Die eingeladenen ExpertInnen fungieren als TischgastgeberInnen für die verschiedenen Thementische, sie moderieren und leiten die Diskussion an ihren jeweiligen Tischen. Die Teilnehmer können sich nach der einführenden Moderation aussuchen, an welchem Tisch sie Platz nehmen möchten und mit welchen ExpertInnen sie zuerst diskutieren wollen. Die Tische sind mit weißen, beschreibbaren Papiertischdecken und Stiften ausgestattet auf denen TeilnehmerInnen und ExpertInnen die Diskussionen dokumentieren können. Nach 25-30 Minuten erklingt ein Gong, die Teilnehmer wechseln die Tische, um sich an einem neuen Tisch mit anderen ExpertInnen zu einem Thema auszutauschen. Die TischgastgeberInnen verbleiben an ihren Tischen und empfangen die neuen Teilnehmer an ihrem Thementisch. Während der Diskussionen gibt es keine fest vorgegeben Gesprächsthemen oder Fragestellungen, die beantwortet werden sollen. Da sowohl die ExpertInnen als auch die TeilnehmerInnen aus verschiedenen Fachrichtungen und Arbeitsbereichen kommen, bringen sie alle unterschiedliches Vorwissen, Perspektiven und Interessen mit. Ziel ist es, ein Netzwerk an neuen Erkenntnissen und Perspektiven zu entwickeln. Abschließend werden die wichtigsten Ergebnisse noch einmal für alle zusammengefasst und können auf Wunsch in lockerer Atmosphäre nach dem WeberWorldCafé weiter diskutiert werden.
